The Free University of Bozen/Bolzano was founded in 1997 as a multilingual, internationally oriented institution, funded mainly by the Autonomos Province of Bozen-Bolzano. This trilingual university (Italian, German and English are the three official teaching languages, and Ladin teachers are trained) promotes the free exchange of ideas and scientific knowledge, linking itself to the European humanities tradition and laying the foundations for its society by promoting respect for democratic principles.
The Centre for Language Studies with his own staff is devoted to the analysis of how linguistic systems, languages and language varieties coexist and are related to one another within society, groups and individuals. It emphasizes research in the field of language contact and face-to-face interaction in multilingual contexts as they are exemplified in the area of South Tyrol, as well as language acquisition and learning in general, and neurobiology of language.
Among others, at the Faculty of Education, this University offers a Bachelor Course in Multilingual Communication Sciences (BSc) that aims to create graduates skilled in managing organizational and communication activities for national and international public and private institutions and NPOs as well as in managing information in knowledge based insitutions as libraries.
