In the Czech Republic, the number of languages and people speaking those languages is continually growing. This is a result of contact with foreign countries, the development of tourism, immigration, the activities of national minorities and their friends, but also of language teaching.
This book provides basic information on multilingualism in the Czech Republic. Following an overview of the language situation, it presents more than twenty languages used in the Czech Republic and a set of selected concepts which are important as concerns the function of these languages.
The book is meant for a broad range of readers: employees in government and civic organizations, teachers and students at secondary schools, and also people from abroad who are interested in language use in the Czech Republic (it contains both texts in Czech and their English translation).
The book was compiled by a team of authors from the Faculty of Arts, Charles University.

Počet jazyků a lidí mluvících různými jazyky v České republice neustále roste.
